Today, Kiko and I crashed a Luau party at a fancy hotel by the water, which was hilarious because we were not at all dressed for the occasion! Kiko said the grody-looking bartender was trying to get me loaded, but I think said bartender was trying to get him super loaded too so he could have his dirty way with both of us in the alley. Man was that guy sketch. Effing OB hippys. Anyway I love the way Hawaiian dances flow. All the while I was stuffing myself on cheese squares with pineapple mmmmm :Dv In the evening I ran about 3or 4 miles, which felt amazing. Now that summer is finally here, running is not unlike having a sauna. Super exfoliating
Then I had eggs for dinner. Have been craving protein like mad lately. When one is vegetarian, I think it is important to know how to listen to one's body. Mine has apparently put me forcibly on the Atkins diet. It is like Natalia you fatass. Sort yourself out!! I seriously admire vegans in this respect, by the way, because I do not know if I could make it living on nuts and soymilk all the time. Within a week I would be jonesing for a big hunk of Madrigal with apple slices and table wine.
I know a lot of vegans, but surprisingly few vegetarians. Sometimes I get asked for my reasons, and I find that these reasons are not directly proportional to animal cuteness but rather to the disgusting state of the American meat industry. If you've ever driven the 5 from Los Angeles to San Francisco and passed the slaughterhouses, you may understand what I am getting at. The very land thereabouts feels poisoned, you know? You sense it in your stomach ugh
My friends are all, yeah that is so fucking revolting man, now let's pull over here and forget our troubles with a double-double. >:E Let me just mention here the beauty of California's In-n-Out Burger chain, which will do grilled cheese without batting an eye. I recall Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos writing in his exotic dining memoirs that In-n-Out boasts one of the two best burgers he has tasted in his life. (The other was in Tokyo so) He would return to his home in Gloucestershire and find a wrapper with that palm tree pattern in his luggage, and he would pine.
Because at times I feel that I can better relate to ladies and dudes online than in the outside world, to all the vegetarians on the reader list, how and why have you come to be vegetarian? I grew up spending summers in the Russian countryside -- dacha is the literal term -- and I remember watching my great-uncle using an axe to chop off the heads of his chickens on a tree stump in the back yard. The chickens tasted decent. There is something terribly organic about raising an animal and participating in its journey to slaughter. Maybe if I had a little lamb, or cow, that I raised with my own hands and funds... but then I would probs pussy out from doing the deed, jesus
The other night I got taken out to Tacos el Gordo, a place near the border popular for its tacos obv. In the (subjectively corrupted) spirit of Buddhist traveling, I tried a lenga taco. It was OK, but later I barfed. Wasn't that I was having a major sickness thing, I just felt awful having meat in my stomach. I kept thinking of the place that meat had come from. I couldn't bear it! My mom maintains that vegetarianism is just a phase of privileged youth, lol, but at this moment I am seriously doubting whether I could ever go back to eating animal muscle tissue. I just don't crave it. The texture is gross, and the the taste is sooo not worth the hassle.

I hate to be a bother to anyone reading this, soooo.
Survey time!
1. How many images outside of an lj-cut do you tolerate, if any? And of what size dimensions?
2. Do you prefer semi-frequent yet gross, bite sized updates, or very sparse but ginormous posts that take 30 minutes to load?
3. Is it worth shelling out $15 for a rename token. I've been thinking of a username change on and off this week. Still undecided, however...
ETA: 4. Does anybody read Alive: The Final Evolution? If yes, tell me so I can be an airheaded spazz and capslock at you about this mangaaaa
Never thought I'd be saying this but... I need to go look for Mara refs now oh goddd

Right now? Chase/Cameron from House. :P They're just the most recent I went crazy over.
As for favorite couples per series (only listed are those I can remember off the top of my head right now...)
Mark/Lexie, Derek/Addison (Grey's); Nate/Vanessa, Chuck/Blair (Gossip Girl); Awesome/Ellie (Chuck); Barney/Robin (HIMYM); Max/Casey (Greek); Matt/Julie (FNL); Ryan/Taylor, Seth/Summer (The OC); Ross/Rachel, Chandler/Monica (FRIENDS); Lee/Kara (BSG);
............ Those are from series I can remember off the top of my head right now.
I rewatched The Hangover with my brother tonight. Both of us agree that we found Knocked Up funnier. We definitely laughed harder in Knocked Up than The Hangover... I thought it was just me. :P

FINALLY somewhat recuperated from AX. It was such a blast in all senses! Of course there were some points that could use some refining, but who am I to complain? It was like a string of small but special events. Thus coming together into one big ball of happiness.
Brace for the massive AX con report!

( none of the pics actually have to make sense...(150+ pics!) )
Overall, it was a good experience I think! Of course every event is going to have it's cons (hur hur get it) but the monday after I remember feeling like it was such a DREAM ;_;. Glad I went this year because I got to meet lots of cool cats - literally!
People I met:
cursedinanime,
dantelatte,
gin_tan,
icedcandy (accidentally?!),
evanae,
fattastik,
finnimon,
giriko,
kurot,
revenus,
vespabee, Danny, Abraham, Jack, Nick, Dana, Ansem...I think that's it?
It was a pleasure to become acquainted with you!
& for those of you who couldn't make it this year, there's always next year?
If you don't want your picture up here, just let me know if you want it taken down!
(This post will remain public for about a week :O)

Dear TV Guide Network,
Stop. Just stop. For fuck's sake - STOP. It's been two weeks since Michael Jackson died. You have reported on everything that could possibly have happened during that span of time. Stop. Now. Just stop. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for you to still be going for 24/7 coverage of this.
I know... believe me, I know that summer is a shit time for TV and therefore you don't really have a lot to cover... but there's movies! And summer is a great time for "25 Hottest _______" lists! You could do that! Everyone loves list shows!
But please... for the love of all things good and nice in this world... let it go. It's fine to do an update on the hour or devote most of your news type programs to it... but do we really need you to spend hours dissecting the life, career, and memorial service of Michael Jackson until the only thing you haven't reported on is the exact second the friend of the cousin of the butler of the cook of the guy who once talked to MJ for three seconds at a concert 20 years ago started crying?
Let it go now,

Have kind of been an intense fan of Bricolage ever since
solipsized put Footsteps on a mix last year. Obviously mondo stoked to get my hot hands on their 2009 full-length. Bright, energetic, anthemic pop. Along with Obi Best and Fight Like Apes, they have been on repeat a lot around here! Trying to classify them beyond "good Glasgow post-punk". There's some old-fashioned harmonizing, a little Smiths on Turn U Over, some funky percussion, even a touch of Darts of Pleasure Franz on Flowers of Deceit. And I think we can all agree that was the best of the Franzes. I defy you to find major flaws in this music
Unless obv you dislike post punk but then you are probably some kind of monster

01. Bayonets
02. Flowers of Deceit
03. Footsteps
04. Plots Are For Cemeteries
05. The Spoilsport's Retort
06. Looting Takes the Waiting Out of Wanting
07. A Terrible Souvenir
08. Turn U Over
09. 6th For Poet
10. On the Omnibuses
11. Sleepwalk to Me
12. The Waltzers
Nice Baudelaire ref lol. Ignore the cliche deer head, here is hoping it is ironic! Footsteps is still the best of the set, but the album seriously lives up to the EP.
Posting up a couple of non-album tracks as well, because bands like this tend to sound even better on minimal production. I do not have the titles of these extremely nice songs though sobbb, anyone know them?

The AX of an odd year is always a crapstorm, but I had a good time despite. We even made it to the Edison for their improvisation jazz and occidentalist burlesque night (vaguely relevant to current interests :Dv), and spent a lot of downtime walking around the Financial District. I dig the LA Library guys nnnnn. I only wish the dudes I love so much didn't have such a bad time by comparison ;A; Lots and lots of things going wrong, people getting sick, people getting hurt. One of the things that happened, the police were involved! I have some hilarious stories as well, which I will probs talk about at length over IM, you've been warned haha. Anyway I didn't really get to rest for what felt like the entire con. I remember one sweet hour of the best sleep I ever experienced, rudely interrupted by someone coming in to report that one of the sick people had thrown up a little blood and I needed to cover their shift. TB?????!! D: D: D:
I guess I am pretty buoyant usually, idk, but under prolonged stress and time constraints I get super super short with people. I am a bad person. I hear I still sort of got the award for being the friendliest staffer behind the desk in the late hours, but that was only due to ULTIMATE EFFORT. And still I remember yelling at bawwwing attendees to sit the hell down. I mean, I like. I later reread some of the text messages I sent out in the interim and I just covered my face with my hands. APOLOGIES TO EVERYBODY, I was a jerk.
RE: cosplays, I didn't do it, sry2say. There were some wig and clothing malfunctions that could have been fixed very easily had I the time to run out to the store for a couple of hours, but obv that was not feasible. Defs doing it for Otakon, when I shall not have to dress up alone. Will feel braver about it with Muun by my side s-sob
How was everyone's AX otherwise? Decent?

Hello Friends List, I require help and suggestions ^_^ Please read!

Year Abroad 2010-2011
What?
Since receiving the results for the first year of my degree last week, I have cautiously begun to look towards the future, specifically my third year, which I get to spend studying at a university in either America, Canada or Australia. We begin to plan out which country and university we want to go to at the beginning of the second year, and submit our choices (I believe) before the end of the Autumn/Winter Semester. Whilst it is too early to say where I will end up, I don't want to waste such an enormous opportunity and am already compiling a list of amazing and awesome places that I want to visit in between studying. =3
Where?
The options available to me in my third year are:
- Spend a year in America
- Spend a year in Canada
- Spend one semester in either America/Canada, and spend the second semester in either Australia/New Zealand.
At the moment, I am clueless as to what my choice should be.
How?
I am calling upon the help of my Friends List to suggest awesome, fun and interesting places that you think I would like to visit/you have visited and enjoyed/you have heard are kick-ass. They can be anywhere in America, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. At the moment I haven't decided what country I am going to go to, nor what university, so anything is on the cards. My plan at the moment is to make a big huge list of places, and then research them and narrow it down into some kind of itinerary for me to do (In between university work, obviously XD)
Also, just any general travelly advice for a small town kid going to a big huge continent will be much appreciated XD

Suggestions and Ideas So Far:
- Albuquerque, NM (Balloon Fiesta, early October)
- New York City (I want to go when it's snowing again!)
- The Smithsonian, Washington DC
- Disneyland XD
- Seattle, WA (Antique Book Fair? Sakuracon? SPACE NEEDLE!)
- The Grand Canyon, AZ (Lawl tourist)
- Nevada: Vegas? Rachel? Hwy 375?
- Chicago
- Milwaukee (Toz meet?)
- Mall of America, Minnesota. It's a pretty big mall, yo.
- California: LA? Hollywood? La Brea? San Fran?
Suggested Places to Avoid:
- Binghamton, NY
- Texas
All very touristy and very American at the moment! =0
Stuff:
- Retrodoom Travel Page
- My Sales Post

All suggestions and plans are being written down in an adorable (And way too pink) notebook that was given to me for Christmas from Jay's parents =3 Thanks for reading guys! ^__^

I think that the biggest problem with humans is that we always want what we know — consciously or sub-consciously — that we cannot have. Whether it be mates or superficial things such as money, cars, homes, boats, etc.
Why is this? What is this racial obsession with the acquisition of goods, especially those that others have and we don't? Such coveting is partly responsible for crime as well as good nature competition. We compete for limited resources (although some are made to seem limitless by the sheer volume of what is made), some of which are worth competing for (mates, food and water, shelter) while the rest is cruft (like iPods, mp3 players, cell phones, etc.) A good question to ask now is how do we not covet what others want? How do we tune out that which is unimportant? Is this racial obsession over coveting what others have ingrained into our very nature from evolution (or creation or what have you)? If so is it ever really possible to overcome this instead of having a constant policing action on your every thought and action? Or is this something that is only culturally ingrained (and only slightly less difficult to over come)?
Feel free to comment with what you think the answer is, but I think the Christian Bible provides two good rules to keep you out of trouble in this case.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife.
Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's goods.
It's a good hands and minds off policy. If your neighbor has something you want, chances are now a days you can go out and find something (or someone) similar.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife.
Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's goods.
It's a good hands and minds off policy. If your neighbor has something you want, chances are now a days you can go out and find something (or someone) similar.
